Concert Dates: Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time

"This concert cycle features the renowned Quartet for the End of Time by the French composer Olivier Messiaen, written in 1941. Composed while Messiaen was a prisoner in Görlitz, Germany, during World War II, this extraordinary work was created for his fellow musicians in the camp. The piece is an eight-movement chamber work, with its instrumentation shifting between movements.

Violinist Jacob Herling, clarinetist Madeline Echternacht, cellist Zach Ward, and pianist Veerle Winkelmolen first met at the University of Kansas School of Music in September 2024. Hailing from different parts of the world—Kansas, Iowa, South Carolina, and The Netherlands, respectively—they quickly bonded over their shared passion for chamber music. The ensemble will perform Quartet for the End of Time at various venues across Kansas during the spring of 2025.”
